The purpose of the Wayne Art Center is to provide instruction in the visual and performing arts. The Center affords artists an interdisciplinary venue to share, learn, exhibit and perform. Specifically, the Wayne Art Center carries out its mission in the following ways:
- Provides instruction in all phases of the fine arts, contemporary crafts, music and drama.
- Provides exhibitions, performances and special events for artists of the greater Main Line area.
- Provides outreach instructional programs for persons with special needs. These programs will use art for therapeutic value.
- Provides a gathering place for artists to share and lend support for improving the cultural climate.
The Wayne Art Center offers adult art classes in the fine arts and selected crafts, for students ranging from beginners to professional artists.
Our goal is to foster our students' artistic development, whatever their level. Wayne Art Center's faculty members accomplish this by presenting lessons that form the building blocks of a strong foundation in the arts. Students are encouraged to continually challenge themselves and move forward in their artistic quest. Classes provide specific instruction, opportunities for group critique and individual attention. To allow for interaction between students and instructors, we keep our classes small.
The Center's faculty members are working artists who have graduated from some of the nation's most prestigious art schools. Many have won awards for their work and are represented in public and private art collections around the country.
In addition to our core classes, we offer special workshops by regionally and nationally known professional artists, as well as lectures by art historians, artists and jurors.
Children's Education
For children, the Center offers age-appropriate classes in the fine arts, crafts
and drama; special workshops; Summer Art Camp; and private music lessons.
Programs are available for young people from 2 through 17. Some adult classes
are also open to teens.
Through a dedicated faculty of art educators and professional artists, the Center provides art instruction that encourages children's self-expression while promoting mastery of a variety of mediums and materials. The Center offers instruction to students of varying abilities in a supportive learning environment.
