Cezanne and Beyond

See forty paintings and twenty watercolors and drawings by Cézanne, displayed alongside works by several artists for whom Cézanne has been a central inspiration and whose work reflects Cézanne's extraordinary legacy.Artists include Georges Braque, Pierre Bonnard, Alberto Giacometti, Jasper Johns, Ellsworth Kelly, Fernand Léger, Henri Matisse, Piet Mondrian, Pablo Picasso, and others. This show is a unique occasion to experience the continuing impact of this influential painter.

Henri Matisse and Modern Art on the French Riviera
PRIVATE TOUR
The Mediterranean coast from Marseilles to Menton—the so-called French Riviera— has attracted numerous artists with its scenic beauty and radiant light. With approximately thirty-five paintings and sculpture from the Museum's collection and local private collections, this installation celebrates the French Riviera's mythic allure for modern artists, such as Matisse, Bonnard,Dufy and Soutine. Monet to Matisse
During our docent-led museum tour, enjoy this exhibition which brings together 30 masterworks of French Impressionism and Post- Impressionism from the renowned collection of the Dixon Gallery and Gardens in Memphis, Tenn. Featuring paintings and pastels by the most influential artists of each movement, the show includes fine examples of outdoor painting by Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Camille Pissarro; representations of the dance by Edgar Degas; portraits and social scenes by Henri de Toulouse- Lautrec and Mary Cassatt; commanding Post Impressionist landscapes by Paul Gauguin, Paul Cézanne and Henri Matisse; and vibrant floral still-lifes by Georges Braque and Marc Chagall.
