I was born in Philadelphia, PA and now reside in Glenside, PA. I am an art educator and have taught art in public school for 25 years. I hold a BFA from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and a Masters degree in Art Education from the University of the Arts.My initial interest was in studying painting and was inspired by the challenges found when attempting to imitate or re-create the various textures found all around me. However, once I discovered printmaking and the art of making handmade paper, I found these disciplines to be much more compatible in enabling me to create the various textural elements that are an integral part of my creative endeavors. I sometimes use found materials such as stones, wire or string and embed these materials into the surface of my handmade papers. I often combine handmade paper and printmaking to create mixed-media works. Many of my works express a variety of symbols to tell a story. The symbols I use can be spiritual, representative of basic elements, and are often inspired by nature.

Deena’s love of nature, science and art comes together when she paints outside. She is a student of nature who is constantly amazed at the natural world. She paints to help others see, respect, and conserve the beauty in our natural world.
Teaching Artist Statement:
Recently a student in one of my adult beginning watercolor classes sent me an email detailing how when unpacking their groceries they were struck by the vibrant hues and textures of their weekly vegetables. They were so moved by the play of light through the kitchen window and their new-found appreciation of color, that they started a painting of the produce that afternoon. Art is all around us, and we are all artists when we open our eyes to the beauty in our surroundings. Throughout my thirty plus years of teaching experience, that is the message that I strive to impart to all of my students. Through my own work with experimental watercolors I present the viewer with the beauty and fragility of our natural landscape. In my paintings, I am constantly testing new materials and techniques, incorporating textural elements such as gesso, and trying different types of paper. In the classroom whether working with paint, clay, or recycled materials I encourage students to engage in outside-the-box thinking and reimagine how their materials might be used to create art. I have experience teaching the full range of art mediums, including print making and graphic design, but I am most at home teaching drawing and painting. I enjoy teaching a wide range of ages, from toddlers to adults, and I have experience working with specialized populations including adults suffering from traumatic brain injuries, students with autism spectrum disorder, and disadvantaged youth. Students depart my classes and workshops with not just a pretty object in hand, but a greater appreciation of the visual subtleties in their environment and confidence in themselves as creative individuals.

Cooking and baking have been a lifelong avocation of mine, even doing some private baking business on the side. I still read cookbooks the way some people read novels. After leaving my previous career to raise twins, I returned to work in a new realm at Williams-Sonoma. My culinary knowledge earned me a spot as a Culinary Specialist, also coordinating the internal demo cooking program, teaching technique classes and managing the food prep for special events. I left Williams-Sonoma to find a less time demanding schedule teaching culinary classes.

- Randall Graham · Painting
View Randall’s current classes
Randall’s passion for art has been apparent since childhood. His love of drawing and creating stories through works of art started at a very young age and hasn’t stopped yet. He studied at The Carlin Academy of Fine Art. Bo Bartlett has also taught Randall and influenced his style. The tradition of Chester County artists continues with Randall. He was born in Malvern Pa and today he resides in West Chester PA with his family. He keeps a studio in Malvern where he works and teaches traditional painting fundamentals.
Randall is ambitious when it comes to his approach to painting. His work comes in a variety of channels including studio work, en plein air (outdoor painting) and his “en rain air” style. The “en rain air” style comes about from painting a scene from his mini van or window while it is raining. The rain drops on the window act as a means for abstraction. The juxtaposition of abstract and reality creates emotional paintings which have become very popular with Randall’s collectors.
Randall also loves to share his knowledge of painting through teaching. Helping others create is a truly gratifying experience. Randall teaches traditional painting fundamentals at Randall Graham Studio in Malvern, Wayne Art Center and Chester County Art Association.

I began drawing and painting at a very young age and have painted ever since. My favorite subjects are moving water, mountain scenes and aged trees. I especially enjoy painting out West and in Maine. Like everyone else, I can go about my days involved in my own activities and can forget to look at and appreciate my surroundings. My art helps me pause, listen and really see. My paintings reflect my inner excitement created by a scene.
From a very young age, art has been my passion. At the age of 13, I entered my first art show with a pencil drawing of a young girl playing a lute and received an honorable mention. Since then, I have been in many shows and have fortunately won many awards. I have chosen to advance my art by studying with art mentors. These mentors have helped me enhance my skills and deepen my insights about my art. My first mentoring began with my Uncle Lester Gallagher at a young age. Lester was a well-known oil painter in northern Indiana who loved painting the dunes of Lake Michigan. Since then, I have studied in oils, watercolor and for the last 40 years in pastel. During the last 17 years, I have studied with Albert Handell. Albert is well known in the art world and a master painter in both oils and pastels. His work captures the moment and uses colors of similar value to create interest and beauty in his subjects.
I am now retired from the busy world of business and I now have the luxury of enjoying my travels and art full time. For the last five years, my wife Sue and I have taken extended trips to our western National Parks. While traveling we enjoy the amazing sights and I teach Plein Air Workshops on the road. I prefer Plein Air painting on site. This allows me to experience the beauty of nature directly rather than from a photograph. My paintings are enhanced by the sights, sounds and my experience of the site. As I search for a subject to paint, I wait for a feeling of excitement and awe to arise about something there. It is as if the scene ?speaks to me? and invites me to paint it. I wait for this invitation and inner excitement. My painting focus is to capture the beauty and feeling of this moment. It is an all-encompassing challenge and joy ? a dialogue between me and the subject placed in two-dimensional form. I am pleased to share my art perspective with you. Some
