Deena S. Ball is a nationally renown landscape painter, known for her innovative use of watercolors in combination with textured ground and specialized surfaces. Deena paints both outside and in the studio. She strives to create simple expressive paintings inspired by nature, capturing a moment in time and striking an emotional chord with the viewer.
She recently returned to Maine after thirty five years of living in Pennsylvania and painting the Mid-Atlantic region. She is excited to paint the beautiful landscape and special qualities of light in the Portland area.
Deena received her BA in Art History and Studio Art from Colby College in Waterville, Maine and continued her studies at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and Tyler School of Art. Deena’s work is currently exhibited extensively throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region and can be found in “Watercolor Artist” and several annual publications of “Splash”.
Recent exhibitions are Green Mountain Watercolor Society, Plein Air Wiscasset, Yarmouth Plein Air, 35th Northern National Competition- Nicolet College, National Watercolor Society Associates Show, Great American Paint In, Back to Nature 2021, A Landscape Painter’s Invitational, Devon Horse Show Art Gallery, New England Watercolor Society Gallery Show and the American Impressionist Society’s Member Exhibition.
Deena maintains a. career as an active teaching artist for both adults and children. She is regularly invited to conduct workshops and presentations for artists’ organizations. During the pandemic, Deena gave zoom presentations to the Philadelphia Watercolor Society, Onodaga Art Society and Salem County Art Society. She has been teaching workshops and classes on zoom for RiverArts in Maryland, Mendocino Art Center in California, Community Art Center and Wayne Art Center in Pennsylvania, Maine Art Gallery and Artascope in Maine. Deena also started an online mentorship program and her own set of hybrid studio classes.
Deena is a past president of the Philadelphia Water Color Society and the co-founder and Artistic Director of the non-profit, LandArt Events which organized Farm to Table Plein Air. Deena is a signature member of Philadelphia Watercolor Society, Baltimore Watercolor Society, Pennsylvania Watercolor Society and is a Master Craftsman with the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen.
