Summer Art Camp 2022: Week 7

Katsushika Hokusai; The Great Wave, 1830-1832

The Asian Aesthetic: India, China & Japan

July 25 – July 29

The art of Asia is steeped in thousands of years of traditions and has given birth to numerous types of art that predate anything seen in the West such as ancient pottery, bronze sculpture, jade carving, lacquerware and calligraphy. There is much to see and learn as we explore many of the various traditional and contemporary styles & techniques of Indian, Chinese and Japanese. The art that will inspire us this week is vast and varied, from the ancient stone carvings and modern art of India, to the beautiful Chinese calligraphy and the colorful Japanese scrolls, screens and kimonos to the contemporary conceptual artists of today. Don’t miss this exciting stop on our journey! Artists: Hokusai, Yayoi Kusama, Amrita Sher-Gil, Sayed Raza, Ai Weiwei.
