Art South of the Border: Mexico and the Americas
August 8 – August 12
As we make our way back home, we will make several stops along the way. From the bustling cities of Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, San Salvador & Mexico City, to the ruins of ancient empires of the Inca, Maya & Aztec civilizations such as Machu Pichu and Teotihuacán. The traditional art of Central and South America is as varied as it is rich. From arts as ancient as pottery and textile weaving to colonial traditions of paintings and wood carvings to the muralists and surrealists of contemporary art, Latino art expresses the beauty, history and culture of the people and region. We will learn about artists who have inspired Latin American culture. So much to do, so little time! Artists: Fernando Botero, Frida Kahlo, Jose Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera, Sebastian.
