May 17 – June 18, 2021
Davenport Gallery, Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Gallery
The 14th Annual Wayne Art Center Plein Air Festival will begin on Monday, May 10th when 32 juried artists will begin a marathon painting exercise that will render over 300 paintings of familiar sights to those who live and work in the Delaware Valley. Nationally recognized landscape painters will spread throughout the city, towns, parks and neighborhoods seeking just the right scene that may inspire a painting that will take Best of Show in this year’s competition. All paintings must be completed on site and from direct observation which is what it means to paint “en plein air”. From all over the country, selected artists travel to Wayne where they stay with local families while working each day and even into the night to create works that will be judged for $20,000 cash awards. The resulting body of work is installed at Wayne Art Center in the Davenport and Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Galleries and is revealed at a Collectors’ Soirée Preview Party on the evening of Saturday, May 15th from 6–10pm. The opening party in celebration of the work and artists is a highly anticipated event and offers the first opportunity to purchase paintings. The exhibition remains on display and open to the public until June 27th. For more information visit waynepleinair.org.
