This semi-abstract painting course focuses on exploring ways in which paintings can be abstracted. Bridging the space between realism and pure abstraction, students will work in a semi-abstract style.
Students will look at work by important painters to learn about specific styles and art historical relevant topics, short demos will be done, and the first few weeks a still life will be set up as an optional point of reference. This course uses a variety of exercises and approaches to enable artists who are starting to paint more abstractly. Students will discover new ways to use colors, shapes, lines and composition to emphasize and understand the abstract elements of their paintings.
Medium: Open to all mediums (the teacher will be using oil paint).
Supplies: Please bring paper, pencils, paint or medium of your choice and appropriate substrates for the medium. We will be doing a new piece each week.
