Long Description
Thank you for your interest in applying to the Wayne Art Center 2019 Regional Juried Spring Open. The exhibition will run from  March 31 to May 4, 2019 and will be held at  the Wayne Art Center, on the Main line of Philadelphia.

The 2019 Juried Regional Spring Open is a call to artists working in painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, encaustic, sculpture, ceramics, stained glass, jewelry and fiber. Artists may submit up to 2 images of work completed in the last 3 years. All work must be original. 

Located along the Main line of Philadelphia, the Wayne Art Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching our community through the arts. It enrolls over 6,000 students and opens its doors to more than 30,000 visitors each year. Classes are provided to students of all ages in all phases of the visual, performing and culinary arts. With over 20 exhibitions in three galleries the Wayne Art Center is able to enrich our students and visitors with fresh imagery, innovative use of materials and the latest in fine art concepts all year long.

Juror – Stuart Shils, 
Wayne Art Center is pleased to welcome Stuart Shils as the juror for the 2019 Regional Juried Sprint Open. Stuart is a contemporary American landscape painter. His works toe the line between formal abstraction and fidelity to the scene he is observing. Mainly known as a plein air painter, he has recently incorporated working from his own photographs of urban scenes. The artist has cited the work of Piero della Francesca and Giorgio Morandi as important influences in his development as a painter. Born in 1954, in Philadelphia, PA, Shils studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts under Seymour Remenick and Arthur De Costa. He was the recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, and an Academy Award in Art from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York. Mr. Shils has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Tibor de Nagy Gallery, David and Langdale, and Steven Harvey Fine Art Projects in New York. Shils lives and works in Philadelphia, PA.


  1. Open to artists from PA, NJ, NY, DE, MD and D.C.working in painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, ceramics, sculpture, stained glass, jewelry and fiber. 
  2. Works submitted must have been completed after January 1, 2016. 
  3.  Collaborative work is accepted. Please include all artists’ names on the on-line application.
  4. Please contact Wayne Art Center if you have an excessively large and/or complex installation. Additional expense will be incurred by the artist if artwork requires carpentry, special surface treatment to gallery walls or a custom built pedestal/armature or specific installation request.
  5. No accepted work may be picked up before the closing of the exhibition. 
  6. Artwork must remain on display throughout the duration of the exhibition.

We are very pleased to announce $3,000+ in prize awards this year.  2019 Regional Juried Spring Open, Juror, Stuart Shils, will select award winners to be announced at the opening reception on March 31, 2019 from 3 - 5pm at the Wayne Art Center.

The entry fee is $45 for up to two artworks

Visa, MasterCard, AMEX or PayPal, will be accepted for entry fee payment. Mail check to the WAC mailing address. The application will not be finalized until the entry fee has been paid.

The artist contact email provided on the on-line application must remain active during the submission and exhibition process. The artist is responsible for checking email (and SPAM) for acceptance and/or decline and other information regarding the Wayne Art Center 2019 Juried Regional Spring Open exhibition. No paperwork or communications will be mailed regarding acceptance and/or declined information.

While all precautions will be taken to ensure protection of submitted work upon receipt,  Wayne Art Center cannot assume liability for any loss or damage to artwork in transportation.

Wayne Art Center provides insurance coverage only while work is on our premises. All work will be insured for 60% of its retail value.

Submission of work to this exhibition constitutes an arrangement on the part of the artist to all terms and conditions of this entire prospectus, which includes, but is not limited to, the right of Wayne Art Center to use entries images for publicity purposes.

If the artwork installation is overly complex, Wayne Art Center will contact the artist to request assistance with the installation process. The artist may be required to assume financial responsibility for any alternations (painted walls, site specific pedestals, armatures, lighting, electrical, etc.) that are requested or required by a particular installation. The artist is welcome to install their complex artworks if necessary. Installation requests must be requested in advance and approved by Wayne Art Center.

All work submitted to the 2019 Juried Regional Spring Open are strongly encouraged to be available for sale and, once accepted into the show, throughout the duration of the exhibition. Price Upon Request submissions will not be accepted. Insurance value will be set at 60% of sale value. All work will be insured while in the Wayne Art Center facility.

The price submitted on the entry form must remain throughout the duration of the show. Wayne Art Center will retain 40% commission of the sale price, or on any sale that results from mediation by the Wayne Art Center staff.
