Mary Elizabeth Nelson, is a lettering and book artist with a background in fine art. For the last 30 years she has turned her attention to calligraphy and book arts. In 1989 she travelled to China and studied Chinese calligraphy and painting for six weeks. Mary Elizabeth continues to study throughout the United States. Her work was selected for the first Graceful Envelope Contest and is now in the permanent collection of the National Postal Museum, Smithsonian Institution. Mary Elizabeth is an active member in the Philadelphia Calligraphers’ Society and has held every position on the board. She belongs to a number of Book Arts Guilds and actively participates in monthly exchanges of hand-made books. She is one of the juried book artists in the 2013 Lark publication, 500 Handmade Books, volume II. Recently eco printing has become a passion.
