Explore still life painting as a vehicle for expressing a personal narrative or vision during this intensive workshop. Understand how formal and technical painting fundamentals can be utilized to depict our own personal stories through the still life genre. Emphasis will be placed on composition, color relationships, abstract structure, format, scale, value and the role of change in painting. Students are encouraged to further develop their own individual use of materials, mark-making and color palette throughout the painting process. The importance of balancing intuition and critical analysis will also be discussed. Demonstrations, slide presentations, individual feedback and group critiques will be given on each day’s topic.
