Home Again – American Art Revisited

August 15 – August 19

We will take this opportunity to revisit the rich art history that has stretched from the earliest indigenous cultures through today’s art scene right here at home. America is a melting pot of many peoples and cultures represented from Native Americans to our present time. Visit one of many amazing museums in our own backyard, including the renowned Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Barnes Foundation and The Brandywine Museum. Be inspired by the art of Pennsylvania landscape, portrait and still life artists to Pop Art and the vast collections of public art. Don’t miss a single day of this exciting week of Summer Art Camp as we finish up our world tour! Artists: Alexander Calder, Chuck Close, Thomas Eakins, Edward Hopper, Jasper Johns, Georgia O’Keefe, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, Andy Warhol, Grant Wood, Andrew Wyeth.

SAC 10 LUNCH BUNCH for FULL-DAY STUDENTS · $25
12pm–12:30pm · Aug 15–19, 2022
This supervised lunchtime is for FULL-DAY students only. Campers must bring a nut-free bag lunch and water bottle. Meets from 12:00-12:30 pm each day starting directly after each morning session and fills the gap for any FULL-DAY students who are taking morning and afternoon art class sessions.

SAC 10 Rainbow Express AM · $265

Utilizing new mediums including acrylic paint, pastels, and clay, mini-makers attempt more advanced two- and three-dimensional art forms, such drawing and painting, printmaking, paper mosaic, sculpture and paper mache.

Campers dig deep into the history of clay and even deeper into their imaginations as they sculpt decorative and functional ceramics. From rolling slabs, creating coils, and utilizing glazes, this camp involves participants in each step of the ceramics process as they develop ideas from their imaginations and eventually place their work into the kiln to be fired. Class projects will change weekly to correspond with the designated Passport to Art theme.

Campers dig deep into the history of clay and even deeper into their imaginations as they sculpt decorative and functional ceramics. Have fun while learning the basics (and beyond) of drawing! Use pencils, pen and ink, markers, cray-pas and other drawing tools to turn simple lines and shapes into amazing drawings. Campers study work from well-known artists for inspiration and build skills in drawing forms, animals and people. Class projects will change weekly to correspond with the designated Passport to Art theme.

Learn to draw funny faces and silly scenes incorporating the tips and tricks of cartooning, including the use of exaggeration to make characters come to life and tell a story. Campers work from well-known cartoons, reference pictures, and their own imaginations!Class projects will change weekly to correspond with the Passport to Art destination.

Young chefs will be introduced to the fine art of cooking kid-friendly and healthy recipes in this popular class. Working at their own pace in small groups, students will learn essential cooking techniques that will serve as the foundation for a lifetime of culinary excitement!

This fun & creative drawing class will focus on traditional fairy tales as well as more modern versions of classic fantasy themes by way of classic & modern literature and movies.

Learn hand building, wheel throwing, and glazing skills in this popular ceramics class while creating functional and sculptural forms. The first few days are spent building pieces, then campers experiment with design and colorful glazes for the remainder of the week.Class projects will change weekly to correspond with the designated Passport to Art theme. Note: Bring a box on Friday to bring home finished pieces, and be prepared to return in a week to pick up final projects.

Campers gain exposure to a number of media as they study composition, perspective and shading using pencil and charcoal; paint in the garden 'plein air' style or try their hand at portrait painting inspired by the great masters.

Things are heating up in the kitchen! Chefs ages 10 and up will work together in small groups to create multi-course meals each day. Discussions about nutrition, healthy eating and culinary techniques will add to hands-on cooking.

Master drawing in perspective and create light and volume with paint! This class is all about fostering individual perspective to create drawings and paintings based on daily still life setups. SAC 10 TEEN: Wheel Throwing LPM · $185
3:30pm–5pm · Aug 15–19, 2022
Take wheel throwing skills to the next level in this week-long intensive ceramics course! Whether just starting or well acquainted to the wheel, this class teaches you tricks and techniques to make functional pots, bowls, cups, and plates. Young ceramicists discover rules of centering and pulling clay to make functional items, as well as learning about glazes and the firing processes.
