Summer Art Camp 2022: Week 4

Salvador Dali; The Persistence of Memory, 1931

Spain, Greece & the Mediterranean World

July 5 – July 8 (No classes on Monday, July 4th)

We have a lot of territory to cover this week as we travel to the varied lands surrounding the Mediterranean Sea where centuries of sea trading have influenced their languages and cultures. From the Parthenon in Greece to the Straits of Gibralter, there is no shortage of inspiration in our travels this week! We will explore archaeological treasures including classical sculptures, architecture and intricate mosaics and pottery while delving into the rich mythology of the ancient culture. We will also learn about the history and artists of more recent times. Artists: Francisco Goya, Diego Velazquez, El Greco, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Rembrandt, Joan Miro.

SAC 04 LUNCH BUNCH for FULL-DAY STUDENTS · $20
12pm–12:30pm · Jul 5–8, 2022
This supervised lunchtime is for FULL-DAY students only. Campers must bring a nut-free bag lunch and water bottle. Meets from 12:00-12:30 pm each day starting directly after each morning session and fills the gap for any FULL-DAY students who are taking morning and afternoon art class sessions.REMINDER: NO class on Monday, 4th of July!

SAC 04 Rainbow Express AM · $215

Utilizing new mediums including acrylic paint, pastels, and clay, mini-makers attempt more advanced two-and three-dimensional art forms, such drawing and painting, printmaking, paper mosaic, sculpture and paper mache. Class projects will change weekly to correspond with the designated Passport to Art themes.REMINDER: NO class on Monday, 4th of July!

SAC 04 Mudworks AM · $225

Campers dig deep into the history of clay and even deeper into their imaginations as they sculpt decorative and functional ceramics. From rolling slabs, creating coils, and utilizing glazes, this camp involves participants in each step of the ceramics process as they develop ideas from their imaginations and eventually place their work into the kiln to be fired. Class projects will change weekly to correspond with the designated Passport to Art theme.REMINDER: NO class on Monday, 4th of July!

Have fun while learning the basics (and beyond) of drawing! Use pencils, pen and ink, markers, cray-pas and other drawing tools to turn simple lines and shapes into amazing drawings. Campers study work from well-known artists for inspiration and build skills in drawing forms, animals and people. Ages 8+

SAC 04 Young Chefs AM · $235

Young chefs will be introduced to the fine art of cooking kid-friendly and healthy recipes in this popular class. Working at their own pace in small groups, students will learn essential cooking techniques that will serve as the foundation for a lifetime of culinary excitement! Ages 9+

SAC 04 Hand & Wheel AM · $225
9:30am–12pm · Jul 5–8, 2022
Learn hand building, wheel throwing, and glazing skills in this popular ceramics class while creating functional and sculptural forms. The first few days are spent building pieces, then campers experiment with design and colorful glazes for the remainder of the week. Class projects will change weekly to correspond with the designated Passport to Art theme. NOTE: Please bring a box on Friday to bring home finished pieces, and be prepared to return in a week to pick up final projects. REMINDER: NO class on Monday, 4th of July!

In this hands-on culinary class, aspiring chefs prepare new recipes every day, while learning about kitchen safety, proper food handling and nutrition. Working at their own pace in small groups, campers learn essential cooking techniques that will serve as the foundation for a lifetime of culinary exploration! At the end of this session, each student leaves with a cookbook full of recipes they will enjoy sharing at home.REMINDER: NO class on Monday, 4th of July!

Master drawing in perspective and create light and volume with paint! This class is all about fostering individual perspective to create drawings and paintings based on daily still life setups. Campers use the same materials as professional artists, including charcoal, ink, oil and chalk pastels and various paints.
