Summer Art Camp 2021: Week 9

Pop Art · August 9-13

1950 – Present, UK and US The Postmodernism movement reconciles art with everyday life. Pop(ular) Art was part of the Postmodernism movement and might be considered the most fun “ism” of all, because it can include everyday things that are transformed into art, such as a the Campbell Soup can, a comic book, or famous icon. Try your hand at creating your own Pop Art, using bold color, simple imagery and everyday objects for inspiration. Artists: Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons, Roy Liechtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, Keith Haring, Wayne Thiebaud.

Supervised lunchtime for HALF-DAY students. Campers must bring a bag lunch. Meets from 12:00-1:00 pm each day of camp.Please Note: FULL DAY campers DO NOT need to register for Lunch Bunch. It is included with combined morning and afternoon registration.

Utilizing new mediums including acrylic paint, pastels, and clay, mini-makers attempt more advanced two- and three-dimensional art forms, such drawing and painting, printmaking, paper mosaic, sculpture and paper mache.Class projects will change weekly to correspond with the designated Isms of Art.

Campers dig deep into the history of clay and even deeper into their imaginations as they sculpt decorative and functional ceramics. From rolling slabs, creating coils, and utilizing glazes, this camp involves participants in each step of the ceramics process as they develop ideas from their imaginations and eventually place their work into the kiln to be fired.Class projects will change weekly to correspond with the designated Isms of Art.

Have fun while learning the basics (and beyond) of drawing! Use pencils, pen and ink, markers, cray-pas and other drawing tools to turn simple lines and shapes into amazing drawings. Campers study work from well-known artists for inspiration and build skills in drawing forms, animals and people. Class projects will change weekly to correspond with the designated Isms of Art.

Learn to draw funny faces and silly scenes incorporating the tips and tricks of cartooning, including the use of exaggeration to make characters come to life and tell a story. Campers work from well-known cartoons, reference pictures, and their own imaginations! Class projects will change weekly to correspond with the designated Isms of Art.

Learn hand building, wheel throwing, and glazing skills in this popular ceramics class while creating functional and sculptural forms. The first few days are spent building pieces, then campers experiment with design and colorful glazes for the remainder of the week. Note: Bring a box on Friday to bring home finished pieces, and be prepared to return in a week to pick up final projects. Class projects will change weekly to correspond with the designated Isms of Art.

Instruction in drawing and painting designed to increase visual awareness and develop the students' skill and familiarity with a variety of media, including charcoal, oil pastel, acrylic and water soluble oil paints. We will look at the work of artists throughout history, to learn what they did to achieve their results, observing both styles of composition and technique. Please remember to bring a snack.Class projects will change weekly to correspond with the designated Isms of Art.

Using soldering and non-soldering techniques of jewelry fabrication, as well as basic sawing and filing, campers create unique and personalized jewelry. Projects change each week, and emphasis is placed on new skills and techniques, so campers continually throughout the summer. No previous jewelry experience necessary.
